Alia were brilliant, colorful, bright celebrations dedicated to the sun.
They took place in the summer and they included : processions, music, athletics, equestrian, and philosophical contests .
Both men and women were allowed to participate in them.
The winners took as prize a crown of aspen leaves.
The most glamorous celebrations of Helios took place in Rhodes.
There, in his honor, the famed Colossus was erected.
